In is article, I will provide valuable information regarding upcoming conferences and trainings in regards to bullying prevention and education. I hope this information will be valuable to you.
According to www.stopbullying.gov, bullying is defined as “unwanted, aggressive behavior among school aged children that involves a real or perceived power imbalance and the behavior is repeated or has the potential to be repeated.” So basically, when students’ bully, it is often because the aggressor perceives their peer/victim as “different” or “disabled.”
Where does bullying occur?
Bullying among ages 5 to 17 years typically happens away from the home environment, unless it is cyberbullying through the internet, social media, and/or phone. During school periods, it can can happen anywhere- classroom, playground, hallways, cafeteria, athletic fields, school buses/bus stops, and at school activities.
Which students are at risk of being a victim of bullying?
Children with physical, intellectual, emotional, developmental, and sensory disabilities are more likely to be bullied than students without disabilities. Also, students that identify themselves as part of the LBGTQ (Lesbian, Bisexual, Gay, Transgender, Queer) community will likely experience bullying.
If you are a student and you need assistance with bullying, please contact a parent, teacher/principal, school counselor, or even your physician IMMEDIATELY. Please DO NOT suffer, do not wait for help. If for whatever reason, you are not comfortable with talking with these individuals, please get help here.
